‘You think you’re going to keep me for a pet?’ Matilda said, as she tugged on the rope. ‘Are you completely crackers?’

The Accidental Princess

The ancient lilac hedge that surrounds Blackthorn Manor holds much more than 'intelligent spiders and fierce stinging insects'. Join Matilda Valentine as she discovers a beautiful yet frightening magical world.

If you're lucky you might even spot a pillywiggin!

The Accidental Princess pays homage to Enid Blyton. In particular, it harks back (with great fondness) to the Golden Age of children's literature and evokes memories of titles such as The Magic Faraway Tree. It is written and designed as a traditional 'read-to' bedtime storybook (complete with black and white line illustrations) and yet is sophisticated enough to entertain older independent readers. The Accidental Princess has been an absolute delight to write and I am so looking forward to sharing it.
